Day 1: Departure - Arrival Lhasa, Tibet

Welcome to Tibet!

Welcome to Tibet, known as the Roof of the World! Your adventure starts in Lhasa, where your tour guide will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to wander through the city at your leisure and acclimatize to the high altitude. Enjoy the unique atmosphere of this historic city as you prepare for the days of exploration ahead.


Day 2: Lhasa

(Explorer & fun day)

Today, we’ll be taking the necessary steps to obtain a Tibetan temporary driving license. Our guide will be on hand to assist you with all the paperwork required for this process. Once that’s taken care of, the remainder of the day is yours to further acclimatize to the altitude and explore the city at your own pace. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant culture, visit local markets, or simply relax and prepare for the upcoming adventures on the road.


Day 3: Lhasa

(Explorer & fun day)

Today’s journey through Lhasa begins with a captivating visit to the iconic Potala Palace, renowned as one of the world’s most magnificent structures. We’ll then proceed to the revered Jokhang Temple, a spiritual focal point of Tibetan Buddhism. Our exploration continues with a stroll along Barkhor Street, an ancient path encircling the Jokhang Temple, steeped in history and tradition.

Lastly, we’ll visit the renowned Sera Monastery, where you’ll witness an age-old tradition as monks engage in lively debates within the tranquil courtyard. This immersive experience offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage and spiritual practices that have endured for centuries in Tibet.


Day 4: Lhasa-Shigatse

(Driving day 1: 365 km/227 miles)

Get ready for an exhilarating motorcycle adventure as we depart from the hotel after breakfast, setting our sights on Shigatse, Tibet’s second-largest city. Along the way, we’ll be treated to the awe-inspiring beauty of Yamdrok Lake, a sacred body of water nestled at an elevation of 4,400 meters. The vibrant turquoise hues of this pristine lake form a mesmerizing contrast against the rugged mountain terrain, offering a picture-perfect vista.

Continuing our journey across the vast Tibetan plateau, we’ll encounter the majestic Karola Glacier, towering at an impressive altitude of 5,045 meters. As we ride closer, the glistening expanse of this ancient glacier unfolds before us, its icy white contours leaving an indelible impression.

Our route then leads us to the historic city of Gyantse before finally reaching our destination, Shigatse. Along the way, we’ll be surrounded by fluttering prayer flags, each whispering tales of spiritual significance amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Tibet.


Day 5: Shigatse-Tingri

(Driving day 2: 240 km/150 miles)

Our day commences with a visit to the esteemed Tashilhunpo Monastery, the official residence of the Panchen Lama and the largest Gelug monastery in the Shigatse Prefecture. As we wander through its cobblestone alleys, we’ll have the privilege of exploring its revered halls and chapels, immersing ourselves in the rich cultural heritage of this significant site.

Later in the day, we set our course for Tingri, continuing our journey through the captivating landscapes of Tibet.


Day 6: Tingri-Gyawu-La Pass-Rongbuk Monastery-Tingri

(Driving day 3: 219 km/137 miles)

Our morning journey takes us through picturesque villages, where the friendly greetings of locals uplift our spirits. As we press on, we ascend to the Gyawu-La pass (5,198m), treating us to awe-inspiring vistas of towering giants including Mt. Makalu (8463m), Mt. Lhotse (8561m), Mt. Everest (8844m), and Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m). It’s a breathtaking panorama of majestic peaks that leaves us spellbound. Continuing our adventure, we arrive at Rongbuk Monastery, situated at the highest elevation of any monastery globally. From this vantage point, we’re afforded the most exceptional views of Mt. Everest, its grandeur both humbling and magnificent. After soaking in the sights, we retrace our path back to Tingri, our hearts filled with the memories of this extraordinary journey.


Day 7: Tingri-Lhatse-Shigatse

(Driving day 4: 240 km/150 miles)

Departing from Tingri, we’ll retrace our earlier route back to Shigatse. Throughout the day, you’ll be accompanied by stunning views of untouched landscapes, offering a continuous display of natural beauty. This journey back is an opportunity to further soak in the breathtaking vistas that make this region truly remarkable.


Day 8: Shigatse-Yangpachen-Damxung

(Driving day 5: 350 km/219 miles)

Our journey takes us northward, with our first stop at the geothermal city of Yangpachen, renowned for its abundance of fumaroles, hot lakes, and warm swamps scattered throughout the area. Continuing our ride, we head towards the land adorned with colorful flags, reaching the majestic Tanggula Mountain Pass. Mt. Tanggula holds significant spiritual importance in Tibetan culture, revered as the guardian deity and lord of all holy mountains in the northern grasslands. Legend has it that Mt. Tanggula and Lake Namtso are inseparable partners.

Pressing on, we continue our northward journey until we reach our final destination for the day: Damxung. Along the way, we’re treated to mesmerizing vistas of Tibet’s diverse landscapes, each turn revealing a new facet of this enchanting region.


Day 9: Damxung- Namtso Lake-Yangpachen-Lhasa

(Driving day 6: 300 km/181 miles)

This morning, we embark on a ride to the mesmerizing Lake Namtso. Our journey begins with a stop at the Tanggula viewpoint, where colorful prayer flags flutter in the wind, creating a vibrant spectacle against the backdrop of the majestic mountains. We then traverse the Nagenla Mountain pass, reaching an altitude of 5190 meters, before arriving at our destination: Namtso Lake.

Namtso Lake, one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet, captivates with its ethereal beauty, appearing as if it merges seamlessly with the sky, adorned with star-studded islands.

After immersing ourselves in the serene ambiance of Namtso Lake, we make our way back, crossing through Damxung County and Yangpachen, until we reach the Lhasa Motorcycle rental company. Once the motorcycles are returned, our staff will ensure your transportation back to the hotel, concluding our unforgettable journey through the stunning landscapes of Tibet.


Day 10: Lhasa - Home travel
