East Coast Blues Tour

Embark on a remarkable 16-day journey along the historic East Coast of the United States, filled with unforgettable music experiences. We’ll traverse the enchanting Blue Ridge Parkway, navigate the challenging Tail of the Dragon, and ride along the Cherohala Scenic Skyway, Devil’s Triangle, Diamondback, and some of the best back roads in the US. Moreover, we’ll delve into the iconic Blues District, visiting New Orleans, Memphis, Elvis Presley’s Graceland, and following the Blues Route on Highway 61.

As we make our way to the awe-inspiring Smoky Mountains, our journey includes stops in Homosassa and the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing. We’ll also spend two nights in Nashville, the heart of Music City, where we’ll explore the Country Music Hall of Fame, RCA Studio B, the Grand Ole Opry, the Johnny Cash Museum, Music Drive, and more, immersing ourselves in the rich musical heritage of the area.

Day 1: Departure - Arrival Orlando, Florida

Welcome to Florida!

Upon the arrival of all tour participants, we convene for a warm welcome and refreshments, accompanied by introductions. The agenda for the evening is centered on acquainting ourselves with one another, followed by a dinner shared in authentic American fashion. For those who still have energy after their travels, an option to visit a nearby local bar is available.

Day 2: Orlando - Homosassa

(Driving day 1: 192 km/120 miles)

We kick off the day with an informative meeting, discussing the details of your upcoming tour along the East Coast & Blue Ridge Parkway. This session will also cover essential information and preparations for motorcycle and car rental pickups at Explorify Motorcycle Rentals, where your reserved bike or car awaits.

Once everyone is geared up and ready on their bikes or in their cars, we embark on the 4,200 km (approximately 2,600 miles) East Coast & Blue Ridge Parkway Adventure tour. We bid farewell to Orlando, chart a course west, and begin our journey by passing the scenic Lake Apopka. Our adventure then takes us to the renowned Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing, offering a close-up look at the intriguing origins and development of drag racing. Following a delightful lunch, we set off for a pleasant ride along Florida’s west coast, concluding our day in Homosassa.

Day 3: Homosassa - Destin

(Driving day 2: 550 km/343 miles)

Today promises a breathtaking journey along the Florida coast and its stunning beaches. We begin our adventure by traversing the Apalachicola National Forest, setting the stage for a day of natural beauty. Next, we’ll pass by the remarkable Cape San Blas, offering picturesque views that are sure to captivate.

Continuing our journey, we’ll ride along the shores of Mexico and Panama City beaches, soaking in the sun, sand, and sea. Our destination for the day is Destin, where we’ll spend a pleasant evening on the pier, enjoying the serene coastal ambiance.

Day 4: Destin - New Orlèans

(Driving day 3: 433 km/268 miles)

Our journey takes us along the picturesque shores of the Gulf and the Gulf of Mexico, weaving through the states of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. Our route is dotted with harbors, bridges, and marshlands, passing through notable locations such as Moss Point, Biloxi, Gulfport, and Bay St. Louis. Our scenic coastal ride leads us to the enchanting city of New Orleans, where we’ll check into our hotel in the vibrant French Quarter.

Once everyone has settled into their accommodations, we’ll gather for a dinner on the renowned Bourbon Street, immersing ourselves in the authentic New Orleans experience for the remainder of the evening. Prepare to be captivated by one of the most lively and enthralling cities in the United States, where the spirit of celebration and culture fills the air.

Day 5: New Orléans

Today, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of New Orleans, a city unlike any other in the world. Renowned for its distinctive mix of historical and cultural influences from Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and beyond, New Orleans is a dazzling mosaic of culture, cuisine, and music. Prepare to indulge in hearty servings of gumbo, spend enchanting evenings in jazz and blues clubs, explore historical neighborhoods, and experience the city’s year-round festive spirit.

Day 6: New Orléans - Vicksburg

(Driving day 4: 389 km/243 miles)

We venture northward on Hwy 61, known as The Blues Route, heading towards Baton Rouge and ultimately reaching our stop for the day, the historic city of Vicksburg. A pivotal site during the American Civil War, Vicksburg was the stage for a crucial confrontation where General Grant’s forces clashed with those of the Confederacy, marking a turning point in the conflict between the North and South. Our visit includes stops at the Vicksburg National Military Park and the Old Courthouse Museum, offering us a deep dive into the turbulent history of the era.

Additionally, we’ll explore the Coca-Cola Museum, celebrating Vicksburg as the birthplace of the iconic beverage where the Biedenharn Candy Company bottled the first Coca-Cola. Our evening will be enriched with the soulful sounds of blues music, as we spend it enjoying one of the city’s lively blues clubs, immersing ourselves in the local culture and heritage.

Day 7: Vicksburg - Memphis

Our Blues & Music tour commences as we venture northward along Highway 61, also known as the legendary Blues Route. Our journey takes us to the “Gateway to the Blues” in Tunica, where we make a stop at the Blues Visitor Center and Museum, a haven for enthusiasts of this profound musical genre.

A highlight of our trip is the visit to “The Crossroads,” the iconic intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 49. This spot is steeped in musical lore, symbolizing the tale of Robert Johnson’s famed 1936 blues song. Johnson often hailed as the “Father of the Blues,” is said to have performed this song in the Delta blues style, solo with his acoustic guitar. The song is pivotal in Johnson’s mythos, alluding to the legend where he purportedly made a pact with the devil to achieve unparalleled mastery of the blues. This tale has not only cemented Johnson’s legacy but has also inspired renditions by artists like Elmore James and Eric Clapton.

Highway 61’s fame extends further through Bob Dylan’s influential album “Highway 61 Revisited,” marking this route as a cornerstone of American musical history. Our exploration along this road is not just a journey through physical landscapes, but a deep dive into the soulful narratives that have shaped the blues genre.

Day 8: Memphis - Graceland - Nashville

Welcome to a standout highlight of our tour! We’re visiting Graceland, the iconic residence of the legendary King of Rock’n’ Roll, Elvis Aaron Presley. Graceland served as Elvis’s primary abode from 1958 until his untimely demise in 1977. It was here that he was tragically discovered deceased in his bathroom by his fiancée, Ginger Alden, on the afternoon of August 16, 1977. Today, Graceland opens its doors to the public, welcoming thousands of pilgrims yearly eager to glimpse into the life and times of “The King.” Visitors also come to pay their respects at his final resting place in the expansive Graceland park, where Elvis lies buried alongside his parents and one of his grandmothers. Our morning spent here promises a deep dive into the story of this incredible man and artist, leaving no doubt in your mind that “The King still lives.”

Carrying with us a wealth of memories, we journey from Graceland to another groundbreaking music capital of the world: Nashville, affectionately known as “Music City.” Our evening will be spent on the celebrated “Music Drive,” immersing ourselves in the vibrant heart of Nashville’s music scene.

Day 9: Nashville

oday is a special treat for music enthusiasts, offering you the freedom to shape the day as you please in the musical heart of Nashville. Whether you’re keen on wandering the vibrant streets, soaking up live performances on Music Drive, exploring the local Harley Davidson store, or delving into the city’s rich musical heritage, the day is yours to enjoy.

For those with a keen interest in the roots and legends of music, we begin our exploration at the esteemed “Country Music Hall of Fame,” a treasure trove of country music’s history and its stars. Following this, we visit “RCA Studio B,” the legendary studio where Elvis Presley recorded numerous hits, adding a touch of rock ‘n’ roll to our country journey. Our musical pilgrimage continues with a stop at the “Johnny Cash Museum,” offering an intimate look at the life and legacy of the Man in Black.

After a day rich in musical exploration, we’ll have some time to rest back at the hotel before heading out for another enjoyable evening on Music Drive, immersing ourselves further in the vibrant sounds and sights of Nashville.

Day 10: Nashville - Sevierville

Departing from Nashville with a collection of delightful memories, we set our sights on the renowned Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in the U.S., and some of the most exhilarating motorcycle roads you’ll ever experience. Our day is spent navigating through winding roads set against beautiful landscapes, ultimately taking on the incredible Devil’s Triangle.

We conclude our day in Sevierville, where we’ll settle in for a cozy evening, resting up and preparing for the next leg of our great adventure. The journey thus far has not only offered us the beauty of America’s musical heartland but is now leading us into the natural splendor that this country has to offer, promising more unforgettable experiences ahead.

Day 11: Sevierville - Smoky Mountains

(Driving day 8: 339 km/210 miles)

Today is poised to be an unforgettable chapter in your life! We’re set to traverse some of the most acclaimed motorcycle roads in the U.S., and arguably, the world; US 129 “Tail of The Dragon” (celebrated as the #3 best motorcycle road in the U.S.) and “Cherohala Skyway” (ranked #7). The best part? You have the liberty to choose which of these thrilling roads you wish to experience twice. We’ll pace ourselves to fully relish the ride, absorb the breathtaking vistas, and prioritize safety for everyone. Please note: “Tail of The Dragon” is notorious for motorcycle incidents annually due to its challenging nature. Exercise caution and prioritize safety while enjoying these exhilarating roads. Relish the journey and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere.

For those who prefer a more laid-back day, staying in Sevierville is an option. You can unwind by the pool or indulge in some shopping at Tanger Outlet, conveniently located just across the street from our hotel. Whether you’re seeking adrenaline-pumping rides or a day of relaxation, today offers something special for everyone.

Day 12: Smoky Mountains- Little Switzerland

Prepare for a day that’s sure to be etched in your memory! We’ll dedicate the entire day to cruising along the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway, celebrated as the #2 best motorcycle road in the U.S. This ride is beyond description and truly needs to be experienced firsthand to be appreciated.

We kick off the day with a visit to the “Wheels Through Time” museum, which houses the world’s premier collection of rare American motorcycles, memorabilia, and an extraordinary assortment of unique, one-of-a-kind American automobiles. It’s a treasure trove for enthusiasts and a fascinating glimpse into American automotive history.

Our journey concludes in the quaint, European-inspired mountain town of Little Switzerland. Here, we’ll unwind and savor the breathtaking views that surround us, reflecting on the day’s adventures. Little Switzerland offers a serene backdrop to relax and soak in the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, making it the perfect end to an unforgettable day on the parkway.

Day 13: Little Switzerland - Savannah

Embarking on today’s adventure, we begin with a thrilling challenge: tackling “The Diamondback” (Hwy 226A), known for its sharp curves and exhilarating elevations, promising an engaging start to our journey.

After conquering The Diamondback, we navigate towards the scenic Savannah and the Florida coast, tracing a path through the beauty of the southern landscape. Along the way, we’ll make intriguing stops in the towns of Norway and Denmark, offering a unique twist to our journey with a nod to European namesakes amidst the American South.

This leg of our tour blends the thrill of motorcycle riding with the exploration of diverse and picturesque locales, setting the stage for a memorable experience as we traverse from the mountains to the coast.

Day 14: Savannah - St.Augustine

As we journey southward, we embrace the beckoning warmth of the Florida climate and its inviting beaches. Our route takes us to the renowned Highway 1, a scenic drive that heralds our approach to St. Augustine. This historic city, once the capital of Florida, stands as a significant tourist destination, rich in heritage and beauty. Our day concludes in St. Augustine, where we’ll spend a pleasant evening together, soaking in the ambiance of this enchanting city. With its cobblestone streets, quaint cafes, and landmarks steeped in history, St. Augustine offers a perfect backdrop for an enjoyable night. It’s an opportunity to relax, reflect on our journey thus far, and look forward to the adventures that lie ahead.

Day 15: St.Augustine - Daytona Beach - Orlando

(Driving day 12: 204 km/128 miles)

Today, we’ll journey alongside the Atlantic Ocean, making our way to the renowned Daytona “Biker” Beach. Our adventure includes the famous “Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail,” a 50 km (about 31 miles) double loop that showcases some of the most stunning and varied landscapes in Northeast Florida. “The Loop” offers a unique riding experience, with freedom, sunshine, open roads, and smooth curves making it a dream route for motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide. This leisurely ride is a must-do for those who appreciate the open highway and the natural beauty of Florida.

Our destination is Daytona’s Destination Daytona, home to the world’s largest Harley Davidson dealer, Bruce Ross Meyer, boasting a showroom of 109,000 sq. ft. Here, we’ll have lunch and soak up the vibrant atmosphere, surrounded by fellow biking enthusiasts.

Following our visit, we’ll embark on the final leg of our journey to return our bikes/cars. We celebrate our safe return after an enjoyable and memorable tour together. The day’s festivities will conclude on International Drive at the lively B.B. Kings Blues Club, where we’ll celebrate our shared experiences, the new friendships formed, and the incredible journey we’ve completed together.

Day 16: Departure Orlando - Home Travel

As we bid farewell to the unforgettable Smoky Mountain Blues Tour and Orlando, we extend our heartfelt thanks for joining us on this extraordinary adventure.
